How to Blur The Background in Photoshop

I’ll show you an advanced but rewarding method to add realistic lens blur to your background. Please note that I will add more blur to this image than is realistic, so it translates better on small screens you might view this article on.

Open your image in Photoshop.

Place it in the frame. If it was imported as a smart object (paper icon in the bottom right corner), rasterize it. Right-click on the layer name and rasterize.
Create a copy of your original layer in the layer panel.

The top layer will be for the sharp part(s), and the bottom layer will be blurred.
